“The Well” remains a work in progress, a graphic rendering of family folklore, devised from dozens of hours of oral history Maya recorded with their grandparents in 2024. This is a small selection of studies from the entire body of work, which includes unpublished poems and prose that probe the inheritance of faith and the diaspora of assimilation in Maya’s family. The work included here deals exclusively with Maya’s paternal grandmother Suzanne, who lived in New York’s Upper East Side as a Jew before, during, and after World War II. This  multimedia project was developed as a part of Maya’s self-directed senior capstone project, and was exhibited in progress at Harvard’s Carpenter Center of Visual Arts in 2024.
